It wouldn't be the weekend without a comment about snow. More snow last weekend and again Friday night, with another 3 cm possible Sunday night. This seems like the most snow we have had thru the 20 years in this house. That's a Lilac bush buried at the corner of the driveway in photos 1, 3 and 4. The snow at the apple tree, along the front of the yard, is now at my eye level.
Snow or not, I managed a bike ride on Sunday afternoon. It has been cold all week, and was still a little chilly today, with the wind chill pushing it to -20C. My path is mostly protected from the wind so I gave it a try.
Not a lot of modelling in the last couple of weeks. First we were out of town for a week, and since getting back I have been painting the living room and kitchen. It has been taking me the better part of a day to finish each section to wash, mask and apply two coats of paint, and I have been too tired and sore when done to think much about anything more than crashing down on the couch. The colour change initially seemed pretty drastic but it has been growing on me after a few days.
Just as well to be house painting since it has been quite cold the last week. The first few days the wind was so strong I thought we were going to lose the flagpole. Then it turned really cold. It was -34C, without windchill, on Thursday night. There are finally multiple days with above 0 temperatures forecast for the coming week so.......fingers crossed.
Beaufighter
Three Beaufighter is finished. I am really pleased with how the weathering turned out. Took some photos in "the hanger" but the plane is just too big. Enjoy the photos.
Alpha Jet
The Alpha Jet continues to move along. The fuselage repairs noted in the last blog are now complete. The vertical stabilizer has since been added and gaps at its base have been filled. Work is underway to attach and then mask the canopy.
I spent some time to make painting masks from the kit painting diagrams. I no sooner finished drafting them on the computer than I read an article that indicated the kit diagram for the underside is incorrect. Will have to do some research to understand what is correct. Next week's project!
The space between the underside of the wings and the top of the intake trunks is very small. I am nervous that this will create turbulence when airbrushing that will result in the paint swirling and drying before it is deposited on the fuselage. This causes a rough, sandpaper like finish and it would be very difficult to sand it smooth. My plan is to paint the underside of the wings and the intake area separately, before attaching the wings. This should be easier to sand any rough paint, or make any paint repairs. The wings would then be attached and the top side of the fuselage and wings painted together.
Until next week. Stay safe and warm.
Looks great Bob. Good job
