A sunny Friday that is actually wet and miserable seems like a great time to get some modelling done.

Some “doh” moments over the last week.

  • I no sooner got the tiny photo etched brass flap hinges on than I knocked two off. Found 1 but not the other. After choice words said, a passable replacement was cobbled together with scrap PE.

  • I sprayed the primer coat and revealed a number of repairs. Some light sanding took care of things. I noticed that the bottom panel lines were not very distinct, so decided to rescribe them. Should have left well enough alone, as the rescribing cracked the door opening joints along both sides. Some CA and sanding and all was soon good.

  • Naturally, all that handling knocked 2 more flap hinges off. 10 minutes on hands and knees found both, and they were soon reattached.

  • While spending some time figuring out the painting sequence, I realized that the drafted flap hinges actually crossed a paint line. The wings have high visibility red patches, but the ailerons are yellow. The flap hinges cross the joint, and there was no way I was going to try and mask that line. So, after all the fussing to het the PE hinges on, I took them off.

  • Sanding the primer caused another problem. The KV Products masks are a fairly heavy paper, and didn’t take well to all the handling. Several were curling, and I couldn't get them to sit no matter how hard I tried. The mask sheet, with the removed masks, looked like a perfect template, so I decided to use it to try and make new masks. I scanned the original sheet, traced the outlines, and sent it to the cutter. And voila! When I peeled back the tape - a new set of perfect masks!

Klutz I am, installing the new masks knocked the horizontal stabilizer off. But soon enough, the tail was repaired and the new masked were on.

Finally time for some yellow! First coat of paint is finally on. Looks like at least one more coat will be mpneeded.
